The hull and deck are constructed of Isophthalic acid resin and tri-axial knitted fiberglass fabric. The skinning layer is 100% vinylester on the exterior and polyester on the interior. Above the waterline, the hulls and deck are cored with Corecell foam, except for hardware attachment points. All coring is vacuum-bagged to ensure 100% adhesion. Below the waterline, hulls are solid fiberglass. There are 2 forward watertight compartments, one inside each bow locker, as well as 4 watertight bulkheads, 2 forward, and 2 aft. Standard fin keels have a sacrificial section allowing for substantial damage to keels without affecting hull integrity.

Upon retiring, and doing a lot of research, Ellen and I determined that an Antares was the perfect boat for us because of its attention to design, safety, and comfort. We had signed up for a new Antares when Ona came on the market in 2016. She was very lightly used, and with its distinctive blue hull, it was love at first sight, and we decided to embark “On a New Adventure” with Ona rather than wait for delivery of a new boat.
Since 2016 we have been cruising half the year and then storing Ona to spend our summers back in British Columbia. For the first 2 1/2 seasons, we cruised Florida and the Bahamas. In February 2019, after being refitted with new engines under a Volvo warranty recall, we cruised to the Caribbean, where we have been since. Originally we planned to go farther afield, but we have thoroughly loved the Caribbean and found lots to explore here. We recently bought a piece of land to plant grapes, so we have decided it’s time for someone else to set out on their new adventure on Ona.
